Hair Thinning Scissors
How To Use Hair Thinning Scissors
People who have thicker hair may want to learn how to use hair thinning scissors. They are usually used to control the hair by thinning it in some areas. This can make certain hairstyles possible for people who otherwise could not wear them. Hair thinning scissors are a good styling tool if you know how to use them correctly.
People who have wavy, curly thick hair can really benefit from using hair thinning scissors. These scissors or shears do not have a regular scissor blade. Instead, they have what appears to look like, small metal combs on either side of the scissor. In between each metal tooth there are blades that cut a small percentage of the hair. Unlike regular scissors that cut straight across, only a small amount of hair is removed with hair thinning scissors. This can be done in one particular area of the hair or all over the head for a more uniformed look. This all depends on personal tastes and the way your hair is styled.
Parents who have children with longer, unruly hair can make it easier to manage by thinning it. For longer hair, it can help to separate the hair into different sections and pin them up. Cut each section individually and make sure that you are cutting the sections in the same areas. Start by sliding the shears over a section and stop 1/3 of the way down the hair shaft. Thin the hair by clipping it off at this point and continue on to ½ of the way down and make another cut. Make sure to comb the thinned hair out after cutting and continue on to the next section until the hair is completely thinned. If you have finished the process and the hair is still too unruly, you can repeat it again.
If you need specific help in one particular area of the head, be careful not to remove too much hair. This can leave your hair looking stringy and it can appear to look dirty. If you are having problems with the front of your hair but the back looks fine, you can thin the front out more. You should again section the hair off making sure that you cut each side evenly. Only make thinning cuts when you are sure they are needed.
Men who have excessive body hair can use hair thinning scissors, especially for chest hair. Most men will not cut of shave this area of hair and enjoy the more natural look. But it can become overwhelming and too long. Trimming this hair with regular scissors can be difficult because it might not turn out even and this can be worse than having hair that it too long. Instead, a man can lightly trim these hairs and make them look more acceptable instead of completely removing the hair. This is a way to have an overall better appearance without changing anything too drastically.
Once you have thinned your hair, you will not want to do it again for several months. Even if you have your hair cut a few times between the thinning processes, let the hair grow in before you think of thinning it again. If you have longer hair that drapes down your back, you should really only have to do this once until the hair fully grows out.
Never use hair thinning scissors when your hair is wet. If you do, you should only make one pass with the scissors and wait for your hair to fully dry before trying it again. Wet hair can be deceiving when it comes to cutting and you could remove too much hair.
