Tips on Nose Hair Removal
There does come a time in just about everyone’s life when nose hair removal, as unpleasant as it may sound, does become necessary for cosmetic reasons. Long hairs protruding from the nasal orifice does not present a health hazard, but it certainly does make a person look less appealing.
Our noses perform an important function to our well being. Most of what we see of noses is on the outside, and each one can be different. Large, small; narrow, wide; long, short; there is a wide assortment of noses being carried on the faces of people. The important work, however, is being done on the inside. The nose is made up of two cavities called nostrils. We breathe air into the nostrils, where the mucous membranes of the moist walls warm the air so that it can enter into the lungs. Air intake is crucial to our very lives; in particular, clean air is needed. Since the air around us can be full of particles of pollen and other elements that could prove to be harmful to our lungs, there has to be a way to clean the air that we breathe. That purpose is served by small hairs located in the nostrils, hairs that are visible by looking into the interior of the nose through the use of a mirror. Much smaller hairs, called cilia, are located further back in the nose and are only visible through the use of a microscope. When foreign matter enters into our nose through breathing, it passes through the hairs toward the opening of the nose, where it is usually trapped and a reflexive action repels it; hence the sneeze.
As individuals age, the hairs in the nose tend to overgrow in some circumstances. While this poses no health issues to the individual, it is an unsightly occurrence. Many people handle this problem by using some method of nose hair removal. Doing so will not affect the ability of the nose to perform its job as long as the removal does not get out of hand and only the offending hairs are eliminated or tamed.
Trimming the long nose hairs is the best method of dealing with stragglers. Small scissors can be used with ease; a process that takes just a second by snipping the long hair or hairs at the entrance to the nostril. There are also commercial trimmers specifically designed for trimming these unwanted hairs. Most have the appearance of a long, slender bullet, the design of which makes it easy to access hairs in small spaces such as the nose and ears. A popular type of trimmer features a circular blade action that is able to trim the hairs along the nasal wall; guarded from affecting the skin by a comb guide. Some of these trimmer blades revolve in only one direction, while others change direction during operation. Either type is just as effective in trimming unruly hairs in either the nose or the ears, and will be a matter of personal preference for choice.
Some people try using tweezers as a form of nose hair removal. Plucking hair from the follicle is an uncomfortable act, and will likely bring tears to the eyes. Beyond being painful, the act of tweezing could incur an infection. The open area where the hair shaft was previously imbedded is now open to bacteria that could possibly be inhaled through the nose, thereby creating an infection which will undoubtedly cause more problems than the long hair had done. For this reason, it is not advisable to pluck nose hairs.
While aging may be inevitable, taking on unsightly features such as overgrown nose hair is not when the proper form of nose hair removal is used.
